The relevance of this article is justified by the growing need for innovative and effective methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, as well as the expanding possibilities of information technology. The article examines the promising application of virtual reality technology in teaching Russian as a foreign language, in particular for the formation and consolidation of skills of expressing locativity. The author emphasizes that virtual reality provides great opportunities to simulate real situations in which foreign students can practice the use of learned lexical and grammatical tools in an interactive form. Using the example of a virtual museum visit, specific variants of speech tasks are given, aimed at working out various aspects of expressing the category of locativity in Russian. The methodological recommendations contained in the article on the use of virtual excursions as a means of developing communicative competence among foreign students will be useful for novice teachers of Russian as a foreign language who are interested in integrating information technology into practical activities in order to increase the effectiveness of the educational process.
