The article discusses an approach to the formation of students' beliefs in the higher education system. The activity of the teaching staff, which contributes to the implementation of the corresponding psychological and pedagogical technologies is revealed. The conditions, methods, means of enhancing the mental activity of students are analyzed. The transition from knowledge to beliefs is analyzed on the basis of the persuasion mechanism. The role of the teaching staff in the formation of stable beliefs of students in order to apply knowledge and skills in practice in non-standard professional situations is determined. The examples of pedagogical activation of students' cognitive activity are shown. Attention is focused on the principle of problematic teaching in the development of mental activity. The role of words and speech in the development of beliefs is determined. Attention is drawn to the role of the dialogue form of communication during training sessions in the formation of a developing environment in the classroom. The dialectical relationship of the elements of the educational process in the formation of the student's personality conviction has been established. The importance of knowledge by the teaching staff of the basics of educational psychology for effective teaching and upbringing is noted.
