Digitalisation is a characteristic of modern educational activity. The results of its implementation directly depend on a methodologically correct organisation and require scientific substantiation, reflected particularly in the development of the conceptual apparatus. One of the basic concepts of this area is digital educational content. The Russian scientific community is engaged in searching for a pedagogically justified definition of this concept, mainly based on the version provided in the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. Arising discussions make it possible to clarify and develop it. The phenomenon’s initially technocratic perception is gradually being pedagogised. The purpose of the research is to analyse the definitions of “digital educational content” presented in the academic discourse in order to identify the generic and specific characteristics of the phenomenon itself.
