The article discusses the patterns of increasing the textual volume of the criminal law. The positive and negative aspects of the conciseness of criminal law norms are analyzed. Attention is paid to the economy of criminal repression. The author analyzes the increase in the number of sources of criminal law. Attention is drawn to the tendency of increasing the number of interpretative norms in criminal law related to the activities of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. New ways of outlining criminal law prohibitions (norms with double prevention, administrative prejudice) are considered. The author shares the opinion that their presence follows from the implementation of the preventive function of criminal law. The necessity of the existence of «dead norms» in criminal law is proved. Proposals are formulated for further optimization of criminal law policy in the feld of textual analysis of criminal law.
