The article deals with the slang vocabulary in the texts of the journal for the mass addressee “Kriminal”. The purpose of studying the slang vocabulary and phraseology inherent in the speech of representatives of the criminal world is to identify its semantics and functions, as well as ways of using it in the texts of the journal. The article analyzes texts from the journal of the period 2020–2023. As a result of the lexical, stylistic, functional and communicative-pragmatic analysis of slang lexical and phraseological units, as well as journal texts, it was revealed that slang vocabulary and phraseology perform an educational function, introducing the addressee to incomprehensible words and expressions in order to warn them about the danger coming from a certain kind of people related to the criminal environment, criminals of various kinds. It has been established that jargonisms are used both in the header complex and within the texts. Headings and articles containing jargonisms, as well as mini-dictionaries of similar vocabulary and phraseology, can be useful for law enforcement officers in professional interaction with lawbreakers, convicts, in particular, to understand the meaning of their speech. The communicative and pragmatic aim of the journal is to warn citizens about the danger posed by persons associated with violation of laws.
