Abstract (English):
The article presents an analysis of the norms on punishments for criminal acts provided for in the first written monuments of Russian law – the treaties of Russia and Byzantium of 911 and 944. Based on historical-legal, chronological and formally legal research methods, the author discusses the types and content of punishments, approaches to choosing the type of punishment according to the norms of treaties, touches on certain issues of the composition of crimes recorded in the considered sources of law. The similarities and differences in the sanctions of similar norms of these sources are shown. As conclusions, the characteristic features of the development of criminal law sanctions in the documents under consideration are presented, a generalizing characteristic of the types of punishments according to the norms of treaties is given. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the content of criminal punishment in the form of a fine. The continuity and development of some provisions enshrined in contracts in modern criminal law is shown.
