This article examines the circulation of cryptocurrencies and other virtual assets within current Russian legislation and its application. The authors analyze the existing conceptual and terminological framework, current regulations, and judicial practice in this area, and propose a set of measures to improve the legal regulation of civil legal relations arising in relation to virtual assets. Specifically, the issue of creating a special registry of owners of crypto wallets and other virtual assets is raised. The registry would record ownership of virtual assets and ensure the legitimacy of their circulation and various legal relations. The functionality of such a registry could be expanded to include participation in matters of virtual asset taxation, valuation, and the implementation of mechanisms for restoring lost assets (or rights to them).
