The article deals with the issue of forming a corpus of substandard vocabulary of the criminal community of modern shoplifters by means of secondary nomination. Using the natural discourse of modern shoplifters, obtained through a continuous sampling method, a cross-section of the vocabulary of the shoplifters’ sublanguage is analyzed, identifying the ways, mechanisms, and methods of its update. The article presents definitions of lexical units nominating specific objects within the criminal community of shoplifters from a common and normative perspective, and conducts a derivational and etymological analysis. The specific features and forms of borrowings are identified, and indicators of their level of adaptation in the national language are established. The most relevant methods of semantic derivation, including polysemy and unmotivated reinterpretations, are described, and productive derivational trends, including combinatorics and conversion, are considered.
